Electric Pallet Jack Operator
Role Overview:
The Electric Pallet Jack (EPJ) Operator is responsible for the efficient transportation of incoming freight from staging areas to inventory and replenishing pick slots within the warehouse. This role ensures that all safety, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and quality standards are maintained to facilitate a continuous production flow.
Key Responsibilities:
- Equipment Operation: Safely operate electric pallet jacks, hi-lifts, or forklifts to move, stack, and maneuver materials.
- Safety Inspections: Perform daily pre-shift safety checks on equipment and complete necessary vehicle inspection checklists.
- Freight Handling: Locate and count incoming freight in staging areas, transport items to appropriate storage racks, and perform quality/temperature checks as needed.
- Inventory Management: Utilize radio frequency (RF) units or handheld devices to enter product data and locations; ensure date-sensitive stock is rotated according to company policy.
- Maintenance: Remove batteries for recharging, replace with charged units, and maintain a clean work area through general housekeeping.
- Team Support: Function as a collaborative team member to support departmental needs and perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Physical and Environmental Requirements:
- Environment: Must be comfortable working in refrigerated environments maintained at 34–40°F for extended periods.
- Endurance: Ability to stand continuously for 8–12 hour shifts and perform repetitive motions.
- Manual Labor: Frequent lifting, pushing, pulling, and maneuvering of materials weighing up to 75 lbs.
- Range of Motion: Requires frequent bending, twisting, reaching up to 6 feet high, and keeping loads close to the body.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Education: High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
- Experience: 6–12 months of experience in a warehouse environment, preferably within the foodservice industry.
- Certification: Must possess or be able to obtain a valid TFI or OSHA Forklift/Power Jack certification.
- Professionalism: Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in manual and electric pallet jack operation; experience with packing, labeling, or loading is preferred.
Safety and Quality Standards:
- PPE Compliance: Mandatory use of hair nets, beard nets (if applicable), safety glasses, and aprons/smocks.
- GMP Adherence: Strict adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices and sanitation procedures, including regular hand-washing.
- Equipment Integrity: No unauthorized alterations to safety features or tools (e.g., locking safety knife blades).
- Reporting: Immediate notification to management regarding any equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, or personal injuries.
